Piano Studies

Pierrette Mouledous — Head of Piano Department

Piano ClassMs. Mouledous began studying piano at the age of four. At fourteen, she studied in Paris with Paul Kovalov at the Russian Conservatory. She continued studies at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris obtaining her Performer's Certificate. There she studied with noted French pianists Isabelle Poncin and Reine Gianoli, and in the performance master classes with Alfred Cortot. In Saarbrucken Germany, she attended classes taught by Walter Geisking. She obtained a masters of music from Southern Methodist University, where she studied with the artist-in-residence, Alexander Uninsky. Mouledous has been teaching privately in the Dallas area for many years. She has performed in Dallas area solo and chamber music recitals (with members of the Dallas Symphony), toured in Texas, New Mexico and Austria. In Austria, she was a faculty member for the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz.

In 1985, Mouledous joined Dallas Symphony members Mildred McShane and Mary Reynolds, to form a chamber music trio, Trio Accord. The trio performs across the United States and travels to Europe to perform each summer. She is the founder of and performs regularly with the Elysee Piano Quartet. Mouledous established the Piano Department at El Centro College before coming to Eastfield in 1970. She currently is performing regularly with members of the Dallas Opera Orchestra and Dallas Symphony and is a member of the Mesquite Orchestra Board.

Eunice Tavaglione — Instructor of Piano; Staff Accompanist for Choral and Instrumental Departments

Eunice TavaglioneEunice Tavaglione completed her masters degree under the private instruction of Stephen Bardas. Prior to this, the studied with Ronald Boud and Janet Hutchinson, under whom she gained valuable training in arranging and accompanying. Tavaglione has traveled throughout many parts of the United States, Japan and South America accompanying various choral groups, where she has also been featured as soloist. Since coming to Dallas in 1976, she has taught extensively at all levels and continues to maintain a large teaching studio. Tavaglione's accompanying skills have been utilized for Eastfield College musicals and college community and other college activities. In addition, she has accompanied groups at the Garland Center of the Performing Arts, Dallas metroplex voice studios, and many instrumental competitions throughout the state. She serves as the pianist for the Irving Chorale, and with them has performed classical pieces in Scotland, England and various other countries. She is known for her extensive church accompanying and presently serves as staff pianist for Northwest Bible Church in Dallas.

Eastfield Piano Club & Eastfield Piano Ensemble

The Eastfield Piano Club is designed to bring noted guest pianists to perform at the college; enhancing the artistic life of the college. The Piano Club and the Eastfield Piano Ensemble perform regularly at the college and in the metroplex to raise funds and recruit students for the piano program.

Piano Department Curriculum

Freshman & Sophomore courses leading toward a Bachelor's Degree with a major in music.

MUSI 1181 Piano Class I Class instruction in areas of basic musicianship & piano skills designed primarily for those with no knowledge in piano skills. Open to all students
MUSI 1182 Piano Class II Techniques, skills, harmonization, transposition, improvisation, accompanying, sight-reading and performing various styles of repertoire. Open to all students
MUSI 1169 Applied Music Minor — Private instruction in the student's secondary area. One-half hour lesson per week; Open to students registered in Music theory, ensembles and other music major or minor courses.
MUSI 2269 Applied Music — Private instruction in the area of the student's concentration. Two Half-hour lessons per week; open to students registered in Music theory, ensembles and other music major or minor courses.
MUSI 2269 Applied Music — Private instruction in the area of the student's major instrument. Primarily for music performance majors. Two half-hour lessons per week; open to students registered in Music theory, ensembles and other music major or minor courses.

Master Class — A weekly master class is offered to all piano students. Recital performances are included in this program. Nationally and internationally well-known pianists are invited to perform and give master classes at Eastfield College. Past performers include: Lorrin Hollander, Natalie Hinderas, Cornelius Eberhard, Jean Mainous, James Mathis, Rie RoueLey, and Ralph Votapek, gold medalist in the first Van Cliburn piano competition.

Sight reading and accompanying program — Offered to all piano and concentration Majors
