Welcome and Introductions
The Construction Team council convened on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 9:00a.m. Dr. Carol Brown welcomed the members and requested that all inquiries related to the building construction project be filtered through her, Jim Jones or Susan Hansen while Dr. Lindle Grigsby is away from the office.
Update on Acquisition of Land for New Entrance
Jim Jones reported that the DCCCD board approved the purchase of the strip of land north of the Eastfield College soccer fields.
Update-Parking Lot for Workforce & Child Care Buildings
An analysis was completed to identify the number of spaces needed to conform to the City of Mesquite building code.
Learning Studios
Rogers-O’Brien reported that the Learning Studios building anticipated completion date is November 16, 2008. There has been some delay due to inclement weather days.
Rogers-O’Brien expects to have the steel available by March 16, 2008. The site utilities will begin on Monday, March 10, 2008.
John Criswell reported that Eastfield College projectors have been installed in C122 with the Crestron unit installation being planned. BKM and Herman Miller will tweak the furniture in C122, C124 and N219 over the next few weeks. Technology needs for the Learning Spaces Building are being finalized at this time. There was a question about the floor electrical boxes. Answer: Yes, they are being poured in the foundation.
Jack Thiehoff has scheduled the first meeting with the Learning Studios Interior Committee in room S-100 immediately following today’s construction meeting. They will discuss colors, textures, flooring, etc. that will be utilized through out the building. The outcome of the meeting will be reviewed by HKS. There will be a second meeting to bring it all together. HKS will then begin the process of getting the correct information to the contractors.Parent Child Study Center Design
Johnny Booth - Booth Architects and Dan Arrowood with HKS commented on the following: The Parent Child Study Center design development packet has been completed and will be reviewed by Rogers-O’Brien. Updated pricing will be submitted to Rogers-O’Brien on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.
Dan Arrowood reported there has been an overall good user group participation in the Parent Child Study Center development phase.
Pleasant Grove Campus
Niki Watts, DCCCD Project Manager, reported that the Pleasant Grove Campus came in 20% over budget (estimated 2 million dollars). The design team and contractor met and discussed all Value Engineering items that did not directly impact functional space (from the end-user) and aesthetics.
After discussion with the Eastfield College building committee team on last week, several spaces were identified for reduction and the CMAR agreed to assume a greater risk on the project. As a result, the project should come within budget.
Workforce / Criminal Justice Facility
Halff Associates reported on a shared system for the HVAC and major utilities for the Workforce Development / Child Care Centers. A revised design development plan will be submitted.
Technology “T” Building Expansion
Michael Johnson with Johnson McKibben Architectural firm reported they have completed the scope budget. A formal presentation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Dr. Carol Brown asked Gerald Kozlowski to notify all faculty of the scheduled presentation.
Art Sykes reported that Eastfield College facilities staff met with HDR on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. There were no pending obstacles on the MEP.
Negotiations with City of Mesquite
Susan Hansen reported that negotiations with the city of Mesquite are on going. We have had some success with the city. We have agreed to install a new 16" water line and complete a small retention pond for the new construction. Construction is scheduled to start in May 2008.
Perimeter Road
Cristina Criado with Criado & Associates reported that construction will be phased starting with the south loop road. The second phase will be the west loop road. Moved up in schedule is the new entrance from LaPrada Drive to coincide with the Learning Studios Building. All plans are expected to be complete by late summer 2008, with completion of phase I and II by
January 2009.
Video Demonstration
Steve Smith with Tandberg gave a demonstration of the various products and services offered by Tandberg. Tandberg is a leading global provider of high-definition video conferencing and mobile video products and services. For more information visit www.tandberg.com
Question: Jack Thiehoff asked will the system shut down the network.
Answer: Steve indicated the system is adjustable. This will allow network administrators to adjust the bandwidth used by the system.
Question: Jim Jones asked are any other colleges or universities currently using the Tandberg system.

Question: Committee Member asked if there were space planning considerations?
Answer: Yes, audio & camera, microphones, and camera location are dependent on size and layout of room and lighting as well. If high definition is required, a fast network (high bandwith rate) is required. We have such a network at Eastfield College.
Steve also stated that a very small space in our main communications room will be needed to house a content server.
