Welcome and Introductions
The Construction Team council convened on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 9:00a.m. Dr. Lindle Grigsby welcomed the members.
Learning Studios
Dustin Moore with Roger-Obrien reported that in approximately three weeks the steel girders will be erected. They anticipate the water line connection will be completed by the end of April 2008 and the second level deck will be replaced next month. The bridge construction will begin this month.
Jack Thiehoff and Dan Arrowood presented the tile and carpet samples to the committee for recommendations. Jack Thiehoff will present to Dr. Carol Brown for final approval. They will use accent colors on the walls and assign accent colors to the buildings. Good feedback has been received from students and committee members.
What information is needed to move forward? Need to make sure vendor is lined up with Kiosk, and water line installation goes as planned.
Parent Child Study Center
Johnny Booth - Booth Architects and Dan Arrowood with HKS reported they have submitted the design and development packet and the drawings to Rogers-O’Brien. The target date for the construction drawings is June 15, 2008. 50% drawings should be delivered to Eastfield College the week of April 14, 2008. Site plan approval from the City of Mesquite Fire Department will be presented soon.
Jack Thiehoff asked if the Parent Child Study Center will have a drive through canopy.
Art Sykes said there will be a canopy at the drop off point; final destination has not been presented for approval.
Pleasant Grove Campus
Niki Watts, DCCCD Project Manager, reported that KAI and Adolfson & Peterson have agreed on construction cost.
What information is needed to move forward? A contract between the City of Mesquite, Dallas County Community College District, and the Contractor. A final plat plan will be required.
John Criswell commented that there were no discussions on chamber areas therefore a clarification may be needed.
Workforce / Criminal Justice Facility
Halff Associates reported they have submitted 50% construction drawing documents.
What information is needed to move forward? Halff Associates reported they will need a wet lab, hypothetical layout, café bar (north end of bar) – need to confirm this is what’s desired. A review of simulator rooms, need feedback on recommended gym resilient athletic material.
Technology “T” Building Expansion
Michael Johnson with Johnson McKibben Architectural firm reported that Eastfield College Building “T” Expansion/Renovation is progressing with Design Development Phase drawings.
They are on schedule to present design and development drawings to the program manager on April 17, 2008. Information has been requested from the technology department to finalize and submit equipment data sheets.
Booth Architects has met with the City of Mesquite Deputy Chief - Fire Marshal, Mr. Alfred Plaster for a preliminary review of the site plan. Chief Plaster stipulated they are to provide fire hydrants every 300 feet around the building, and the fire department connection must be located within 50 feet of fire lane. The welding lab should carry an “H” classification and will need to have a separation wall from the adjacent “B” occupancy.
John Emery asked if the “T” building expansion will interfere with western expansion of the workforce building. Dr. Lindle Grigsby said no.
Utility and Infrastructure Update
Susan Hansen reported the bids for construction are due by Thursday, April 10, 2008. There are approximately nine potential vendors.
Perimeter Road
Cristina Criado with Criado & Associates reported construction will begin on the southern section of South Loop road in July or August 2008. Storm sewer will be included with the west part of the Perimeter Road.
Committee members expressed concern regarding construction plans of the Motley Drive entrance at the beginning of the fall semester. Cristina Criado said they will be cognizant of traffic control plans and will make appropriate accommodations.
Gerald Kozlowski asked if Criado & Associates can display visuals at the next meeting to allow committee members to better conceptualize the project. Cristina Criado agreed and will have visuals at the June 4, 2008 meeting.
Gerald Kozlowski expressed concern about construction of Perimeter Road during the Technology Expo seminar scheduled for early November 2008. Recommendations will be submitted at the next meeting to offset potential interference.
Furniture Team Visits
Dr. Lindle Grigsby, Jack Thiehoff and the furniture committee met with Herman Miller the furniture vendor. They submitted a tentative design plan. Herman Miller will redo their proposal to include high and low cost pricing.
Dr. Lindle Grigsby, Jack Thiehoff and the furniture committee will visit BKM on Friday, 4/11/08. BKM is an approved vendor for the Dallas County Community College District.
What is needed to move forward? A decision needs to be made on classroom occupancy. Jack Thiehoff requested that Lucinda Gonzales view the plans to make sure we have accurate media replacements.
