Welcome and Introductions
The Construction Team council convened on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 9:00a.m.  Dr. Lindle Grigsby welcomed the members.  Dr. Grigsby reported that Dr. Carol Brown is expected to return to the office within the next week or so.

Dr. Grigsby said the next phase of the construction project is critical, with three construction projects all within close proximity of each other.  Supplies and deliveries will happen simultaneously.  All three construction firms will be working closely together to address any concerns.  They have already begun individual meetings to address any possible concerns.

Learning Studios
Dustin Moore with Rogers-O’Brien reported the masonry and plaster finishing are being completed on the main building and the exterior of the bridge will be completed within the next week..  The interior is currently underway.  Second floor is sheet-rocked on both sides of the walls and tape and bedding is ongoing.  The first floor is approaching this same state.  The elevator was delivered last week and is being installed.

Dr. Lindle Grigsby reported tours of the Learning Studios building are tentatively being scheduled for 10/6 and 10/9, or 10/20 and 10/23/08.  Maximum attendee’s for tour group will be determined by the number of hard hats that are available.  The number will be on a “first-come” basis.  A walk through of the learning studios building was conducted last week, and everyone was very pleased with the progress and the way the learning studio concept is being carried out in the design.

A meeting was held last week relative to the bus lane.  This is being addressed by the perimeter road construction to avoid any delay in the opening of the LC building.  We did not want to present a change order to the city of Mesquite for what had already been approved.  This will be part of the new permits to be issued.  Approval from the City of Dallas has been granted for the turn lane off of LaPrada Drive.

What information is needed to move forward?  No additional information is needed at this time

Center for Child and Parent Studies
Johnny Booth - Booth Architects reported the civil engineering and grading plans have been approved.  Lisa Bachman will coordinate meeting to discuss the parking lot juncture between the Workforce/Criminal Justice building and the Center for Child and Family Studies.

Dave Littleton reported when permit is issued for the Workforce Development building, then the site plans for the additional parking will be presented.  Again this is so there will be no delay in securing the necessary permits to continue with the construction of the current facilities.

What information is needed to move forward?  No additional information is needed at this time.

Pleasant Grove Campus
Brad Napier with Adolfson & Peterson reported all earth-work, pier, and grading is complete.  The steel girders will be erected in approximately three weeks, one-third of paving has been poured. They are approximately two weeks ahead of their schedule, but behind on the original schedule.

Javier Olguin, Executive Director of the Pleasant Grove Campus asked if there is an official projected time-line for the Pleasant Grove Campus.  Brad Napier said yes, he will send Mr. Olguin a projected time-line schedule.

Javier Olguin reported an advisory council board is being formed.  This team will collaborate on industry needs in conjunction with the Dallas County Community College District.

Workforce / Criminal Justice Facility
Halff Associates reported plans were submitted to the City of Mesquite approximately two weeks ago, they do not anticipate any hiccups.

Susan Hansen will schedule meeting to discuss the preliminary interior color choices.

What information is needed to move forward? Need official designation name of building.

Technology “T” Building Expansion
Michael Johnson with Johnson McKibben Architectural firm reported they have received site approval from the City of Mesquite for the “T” building expansion project.  The engineering review has been submitted and bids are scheduled to be received by 9/18/08.

Parking and easement has been finalized.  The abandoned easement from the old location for the transformer is being submitted and a new easement, where the new transformer will be located, is being prepared.  The location for the new transformer, moving it from across the compound to a site immediately behind the current “T” building, will provide a cost saving of approximately $40,000.00 dollars.

Jim Starling will be working with the bids once they are received.  It will probably take about one week for the review.

A part of parking lot N1 will be permanently impacted as a result of the Technology Building expansion. About ½ of N1 parking will have to be closed off for construction.  Most of N2 parking will be lost during construction to serve as parking for the automobiles currently stored inside the compound.  This area will be fenced with a gravel road back to the “T” building from
the North side for moving the automobiles back and forth.

What information is needed to move forward? No additional information is needed at this time.

Utility and Infrastructure Update
Dave Littleton with Halff Associates reported paving repairs (where the trenches crossed the roads and walks) will begin on Friday, 9/12/08 and is expected to be complete by early next week.  Estimated completion of infrastructure is scheduled for the end of September.  A portion of the Eastfield College upper court yard (between “P” and “A” will be cut and  replaced) as a result of the construction trenching for the communication lines.

What is needed to move forward?  No additional information is needed at this time.

Perimeter Road
David Francis with Criado & Associates reported the following:

What is needed to move forward?  Need proposed documents of Loop Road from Michael Johnson with Johnson McKibben Architectural firm.

Adaptive Remodel
Dr. Lindle Grigsby reported he has submitted the “project list” to the project managers and architects.  He anticipates the City of Mesquite will raise questions regarding the absence of fire sprinklers in buildings “C” and “N”.

Parking Expansion
Dr. Lindle Grigsby reported funds have been rolled into the construction fund budget, and parking lot N2 will be completely redone.

What is needed to move forward?  No additional information needed at this time.

Furniture Team Visits
Jack Thiehoff reported the Learning Center committee members met with Steelcase yesterday, 9/9/08 to finalize plans.  They walked the LC building and measured the rooms and agreed the furniture should fit the spaces as ordered.

The Committee is waiting for the color board from KAI to begin the furniture selection for the  Pleasant Grove facility.

What is needed to move forward?  Need color board interior.
