Eastfield College Diversity Speakers Series: Broadening and Understanding the Asian and Latino Parallels

(Mesquite, TX) – Eastfield College Diversity Speakers Series presents “Broadening and Understanding the Asian and Latino Parallels” on October 28 in Room S101. This seminar will be presented by Dr. Julia So from 1 – 3 p.m.

This interactive workshop is designed to familiarize participants with similarities in the cultural values and immigrant experiences of U.S. Asians and Latinos. Participants will become familiar with certain communication codes that are common to the two groups and acquire a better understanding of the cultures and values of the two groups.

Dr. Julia So currently serves as the Director of Community Engagement for the Dallas County Community College District. A recipient of the 2006 National Institutional Excellence Award from the National Organization of Chinese Americans, she also received the 2007 Distinguished Alumna Award from Tarrant County College. Dr. So is the immediate Past Chairman of the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce and immediate Past President of the North Texas Advisory Board of the Texas Diversity Council. Besides conducting workshops on diversity, leadership, and Asian cultures, she also writes for the Horizon, a quarterly newsletter of the Dallas HR Management Association, and the American Diversity Report, a national e-newsletter on diversity issues.
