(Mesquite, TX) – Eastfield College invites you to join us in the Grand Opening for the Learning Center on the Eastfield campus Thursday, February 5 from 4–6 p.m. (behind the Performance Hall). Representatives from the City of Mesquite, Mesquite Chamber of Commerce and neighboring chambers, the Mesquite Independent School District and area school districts, as well as the community have been invited to attend.
The 55,000 square foot Learning Center was designed by HKS, Inc. Architects. This new facility is located on the west side of the campus compound and houses learning studios designed to permit greater interaction between students and faculty and thus enhance student learning. Designed to be interactive, Learning Studios consist of moveable tables and student chairs so the room can be arranged to meet the learning objective of the day between the instructor and the students. The instructor will be freer to move about the studio and communicate more directly with individual students. The technology incorporated into these studios will enable the students to participate more in their class time discussions without worrying about missing some note the instructor has written on the board. When they arrive home, following the class, they will have access to those class notes, sent to them electronically.
Additionally, faculty offices as well as division offices for Social Science & Human Services and Arts, Language & Literature have been relocated to the Learning Center.
Eastfield is in the midst of a large capital building program that will result in the ultimate construction of four major educational/learning facilities on the Eastfield campus on I-30 just west of LBJ Freeway in Mesquite. In addition to these on-campus facilities, Eastfield will also be responsible for the design, construction and servicing of the South Campus of the Dallas County Community College District.
Eastfield College has served the southeastern corner of Dallas County, providing accessible and affordable educational opportunities since opening its doors in 1970. As the second of seven Dallas County Community Colleges, Eastfield College provides a full range of academic transfer program to approximately 10,000 students each semester. Eastfield offers associate degrees in arts and sciences that meet freshman and sophomore course requirements for a bachelor’s degree at four-year colleges and universities. Career programs in technical and service fields make up the core of extensive, quality instruction offered. In addition, several thousand students annually participate in rewarding, extensive workforce/continuing education sources for students of all ages.
