Eastfield College Partners with Legacy Medical Village Through Skills Development Fund Grant

(Mesquite, TX) – Eastfield College and Plano's Legacy Medical Village will partner for a $100,000 Texas Skills Development Fund Grant. The grant will provide Legacy Medical Village practitioners and staff with free on-site training opportunities in leadership management, office skills and basic health classes. The training will be provided by Eastfield staff and instructors who work with the Texas Workforce Commission to advance state and federal workforce development goals.

To increase the skill level of the local health workforce, Eastfield will provide instructors designated to administer job training in first aid, EMR (Emergency Medical Responders) training, chart auditing, CPR, patient safety, team building and conflict resolution, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance, current procedural terminology coding, and customer service.

The Skills Development Fund is a job-training program that provides Texas businesses and workers with grants from the Texas Workforce Commission. Businesses, public community and technical colleges, local workforce development boards and economic development partners use the grants to identify workforce education needs, create new jobs and improve the skills of their current workers.

“On behalf of Eastfield, we feel honored to build this community relationship designed to promote Excellence in this (professional) work-force learning initiative and provide enriching customized training while investing valued time, experience and commitment to this premier outpatient healthcare facility,” said Te'sha Johnson, Grant Administrator for Skills Development Fund Grants at Eastfield College.

“We are proud Legacy Medical Village was selected for this grant and the opportunity it creates for us to provide additional staff training,” said Dr. Christopher Crow, founder of Legacy Medical Village and award-winning family physician. “This will enable us to continue providing the highest quality of care to our patients, and is an incredible opportunity that will benefit our community, and ultimately advance the healthcare workforce in Texas.”
