Eastfield Hosts Science & Math Expo for West Mesquite Students

(Mesquite, TX) - The Eastfield College Science & Math Divisions hosted a Science & Math Expo for West Mesquite High School on May 22. Approximately 150 eleventh and twelfth grade students participated in the all day science and math field day led by science and math faculty for presentations in forensic science, biology, chemistry and mathematics. Leading sessions were Eastfield science and math faculty Carl Knight, Judi Elliott, Jim Elder, Ahmed Rashed and Boyd Norton (from Cedar Valley College). The event was co-sponsored by Resource & Community Development and the National Science Foundation's Science Talent Expansion Program.

Dr. Jennifer Baggett (far right) explains to students how the Scanning Electron Microscope can assist in Forensic Science work-in this case students will be using it to compare different clothing fibers from a mock crime scene.   Ahmed Rashed explained to students how they can dazzle their friends with card tricks by showing them the math behind how they work.
