Professional Development is the continuous process of acquiring new knowledge, skills, and abilities that relate to one’s profession, job responsibilities, or work environment. Professional development plays a key role in maintaining trained, informed and motivated employees, regardless of the employee’s job classification.
The objectives of professional development are to help employees enhance their job skills, improve employee engagement, obtain job-related knowledge, increase productivity, improve access to and usage of new technologies, and provide lifelong learning for self-enrichment.
