EFC Home School Connection Classes

Parent registration/Orientation meeting required prior to registration. For all children under the age of 18, parents must complete a DCCCD Minor Student Emergency Health Release form before the class begins. Pick up form in the Continuing Education office during regular business hours. For students under the age of 15, a parent needs to sign student in and out of every class session.

Parent Homeschool Resources - EDUZ 1000   $50.00
Parents, are you considering Homeschooling? Are you looking for more support and curriculum resources or different teaching methods? Come to a special parents’ course where we will discuss and share: philosophy of home education, Texas and national laws, homeschool parent support groups, how children learn, learning styles, curriculum resources and teaching methods for specific subjects to facilitate your children’s learning. The facilitator Lisa Coleman is a certified teacher as well as homeschool parent and consultant to other homeschoolers.

English Literature for Teens - ENGZ 1000          $130.00
Prerequisites: Composition writing and research skills
Students will sample a wide variety of English authors while exploring the history, themes, and readings related to the English Experience. Students will explore significant pieces of literature, discovering how historical and cultural influences affect the literature. Students will read, participate in literature circles, and have fun, interactive assignments. Come be a part of the fun as literature creatively comes alive!

Writing, Grammar & Speech - DWRZ 1000           $130.00
Prerequisites: first semester of writing
Beginning level writing, grammar and speech for ages 13-18. Paragraph development and short essays will be the focus of the course. Computer lab will be used for writing and editing own work. Bring r/w CD. Textbooks required.

Research Skills - CRWZ 1000                                $130.00
Prerequisites: 9th grade or above
This course is designed to teach students the “ins and outs” of the research process. It will begin with the selection of the topic, then move on to narrowing, note taking, library research, organizing information, drafting, and revising to produce a final product. The students will be guided throughout the entire process and graded along the way. The class will culminate in a typed, fully documented paper with internal notes and a bibliography. Supplies: lined 3x5 cards, pen/pencils, notebook or spiral, r/w CD, and a copy of the textbook.

Pre-Algebra Math for Teens (fall) - DMAZ 1000            $150.00
Class meets 2 days per week. Individualized math assessment and basic math skills curriculum designed for each student’s needs. Math facilitator/instructor will guide student in the completion of as many math objectives as possible by presenting/discussing topics, suggesting outside reading and practice using the textbook. The PLATO math curriculum is also available in the Learning Assistance Center. Supplies include notebook, loose-leaf paper, pencils and erasers. TEXTBOOK: Interactive Arithmetic , H&H Publishing

Algebra I for Teens (fall) - DMAZ 1000                     $150.00
Prerequisites: Mastery of basic math fundamentals/Pre-Algebra math.
Class meets 2 days per week. Individualized math assessment and beginning algebra math skills curriculum is designed for each student’s needs. Math facilitator/instructor will guide the student in completing math competencies as student is ready by providing lecture, group work based on use of the textbook. PLATO computerized math curriculum is also available in Learning Assistance Center. Supplies include notebook, loose-leaf paper, pencils and erasers. TEXTBOOK: Introductory Algebra , Prentice Hall/Simon & Schuster)

Math Magician Tutoring - DMAZ 1000                   $150.00
All ages 7-18. Come visit the math Magician. Show me the questions you don’t understand. Students need to bring own school textbook, homework, quizzes, and tests and lots of questions. Please bring own pencils and notebook paper.

Algebra II for Teens (fall) - DMAZ 1000                   $150.00
Prerequisites: Mastery of basic math fundamentals/Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I math.
Class meets 2 times per week. Individualized math assessment and intermediate algebra math skills curriculum is designed for each student’s needs. Math facilitator/instructor will guide the student in completing math objectives by providing lecture, group work and discussion based on the textbook. The PLATO computerized math curriculum is located in the Learning Assistance Center. Supplies include notebook, loose-leaf paper, pencils and erasers. TEXTBOOK: Interactive Math Intermediate Algebra, Academic Systems

Geometry for Teens (fall) - DMAZ 1000          $150.00
Prerequisites: Mastery of basic math fundamentals/Pre Algebra math.
Class meets 2 days a week. Individualized math assessment and beginning geometry math skills curriculum are designed for each student’s needs. Math facilitator/instructor will guide the student in completing objectives by lecture and group discussion based on the textbook lessons. The computerized PLATO math curriculum is also located in the Learning Assistance Center. Supplies include notebook, loose-leaf paper, pencils and erasers. TEXTBOOK: Geometry, Houghton-Mifflin
