Prerequisites: For new students to the ESL program. A score of 0 to 5 on the Lindholm test.
A course for the student learning English for the very first time.  Emphasis is on basic language and community survival skills. Textbook required.

ESL: Communications Improvement I - COMG 1000   $95.00
Prerequisites: A certificate from Literacy Workplace Skills
This is the beginning course in English as a Second Language for non-native speakers. Emphasis will be on developing students’ basic speaking skills to create a working vocabulary of up to 600 words. Simple grammatical structures and writing skills are introduced. Basic reading, writing and math skills required for entry into the workplace are also introduced. Presentation of industry related basic reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Textbook: World Link I ( Heinle ).

ESL: Communications Improvement II - COMG 1001  $95.00
Prerequisites: A certificate from Communications Improvement I
This course is for people who can speak, read and write basic English. Conversational, listening, reading and writing skills are further developed to provide the student with a functional vocabulary range of 1200 words. Reading, writing and math skills required for entry into the workplace will also be developed. Exposes students to a variety of relevant job-related content. Textbook required. ESL: Communications Improvement III - COMG 1004            $95.00
Prerequisites: A certificate from Communications Improvement II
This is an intermediate level course for the non-native speaker seeking to refine the acquired language skills in the areas of listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. More complex grammatical structures and writing activities lead to a 2200-word vocabulary. Reading, writing and math skills required for entry into the workplace will also be developed. Improvement in reading vocabulary/comprehension skills, as well as speaking, writing, and listening skills for job success. Textbook: World Link III ( Heinle ).

ESL: Communications Improvement IV - COMG 1005            $95.00
Prerequisites: A certificate from Communications Improvement III
This is a more advanced class for students who can speak English  with some fluency and wish to improve their written use of the language. Spelling, punctuation, usage and sentence construction will be stressed along with vocabulary building and composition. Reading, writing and math skills required for entry into the workplace will also be developed. Focus on comprehending challenging industrial and job-related material. Emphasis on industry-related vocabulary development and skills acquisition. Textbook: World Pass Upper-Intermediate (Heinle). In addition to the current curriculum, students will examine the assimilation of Asian-American and Hispanic cultures.

This is an advanced class for students who can speak English  with some fluency and wish to improve their written use of the language.
