The Dallas Mavericks onslaught continues as they fight for first place in the Western Division, after they conquered their nemesis, the San Antonio Spurs.
It has been a rough ride as the Mavericks are losing critical games before the playoffs.
The playoffs are always about who can survive the onslaught of teams. Most of the time, teams are playing back-to-back games, while traveling between cities. The Mavericks this year proved that when they are put in that particular situation they lose.
This year the Mavericks are going to have to hunger for a win. They can’t go in the playoffs and think someone will give them a trophy. They have to battle for it.
First of all the Mavericks need to have more control of the floor, especially at home. The Mavericks need to utilize every inch of the floor and find those open and easy shots.
The second thing is to improve the second string players performance. They need time in the real games to get the pressure, feel and intensity of how the game is played. Then the players may become capable of stepping in and giving Dirk and friends enough energy to sit out a while.
Third is their defense. The Mavericks in the past lacked defense, but always had a very powerful offense. Defense wins games not offense. Keeping the opposing team out of your goal will not only help win, but make a cushion just in case there is a fourth quarter breakdown.
Last, teamwork is very important. It means that each member has to give something in order to receive the win. Dirk can’t shoot all the shots and make all the baskets the other players have got to put their gears in a higher notch in order to even begin thinking about the championship game.
The Mavericks have still have to prove that they can battle for the championship. If they do fight hard enough the trophy will be their’s. On the other hand if they walk in like the other playoffs, well then that will be their reward. |
