Reports say some faculty in the district are not pleased with Chancellor Jesus Carreon’s work.
There has been talk about a possible vote of confidence for the chancellor, according to a recent Dallas Morning News article.
The faculty association has drafted a survey that would rate upper level leadership within the district.
The survey asks wether there have been successful organizational outcomes and if the leadership encourages a positive environment, according to the Jan. 10 board of trustees meeting minutes.
Fred Newbury is the president of the district’s faculty association and indicated that the survey was “working draft.”
According to the article, Newbury said that, “faculty members are disappointed with what they see as the chancellor’s lack if consultation with the faculty.”
Newbury added that for some time the faculty morale has been declining.
When contacted by the Et Cetera, Newbury did not comment.
“There is undue scrutiny of what this Board has decided and directed this Chancellor to do,” said Diana Flores, a Board of Trustees member of ten years. “In my opinion it is racist, racist, racist at its core.”
She told the board about a former Vice President who was told by a member of the faculty, “We don’t take orders from Mexicans.”
She followed the comment by apologizing for getting passionate about the issue but that it was inherent to who she is.
“I thank the faculty council and faculty association for this because it gives me the opportunity to not go on rumor or innuendo but on actual fact and action to address these issues,” Flores said. “It is time for us to get about the business that we hired this Chancellor to do and that’s to get the best education to our students.”
Martha Sanchez Metzger, also a Board of Trustees member, voiced her opinion during the meeting concerning this issue. “I feel like the voice of my constituents has been stifled by what this survey indicates, specifically, when you say organizational climate survey,” Metzger said.
“According to Jane Penney, the president of the college faculty association, the Chancellor examined the district’s process and structure because he wanted to see what worked and what did not. “Not everything is rosy, but at Eastfield there are other factors involved,” said Penney. “It could be that we haven’t had stability,” referring to the college administration being restructured. |
