Freshman learning communities

As a freshman, is it important to you…

… to know everyone in your classes?
… to know your teachers work together to help you succeed?
… to succeed in your first semester at Eastfield?
… to be ready to transfer to a four-year university in two years?

If so, a freshman learning community might be for you. A learning community is a group of students who attend the same classes. If you have passed as “college ready” in both reading and writing, we have two learning community options for you.

Option 1: QEP

If you need to take Developmental Math 0097, register for the FTW: For The Win learning community. You can complete 12 credit hours (4 courses) between 8 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. on Monday/Wednesday/Friday with Professors Matt Hinckley (HIST 1301-4803), Shazia Ali (ENGL 1301-4803), Ana Rodriguez (EDUC 1300-4803) and Erika Glaser (DMAT 0097-4803). FTW: For The Win is designed to get you on the path to College Algebra in one calendar year, and ready to transfer and/or graduate with an associate degree in two years.

Option 2: Blended Learning Communities

If you are at a different level in MATH/DMAT, register for the Writing History: Stories, Victories, and the American Identity Learning Community. Professors Shazia Ali and Mike Walker team-teach ENGL 1301-4801 and HIST 1301-4801 from 9:30 to 12:20 on Tuesday/Thursday. Writing History: Stories, Victories, and the American Identity allows you to customize your other freshman courses according to your own schedule needs.
