Becoming a Rising StarWho Can Apply? Rising Star is open to every Dallas County public high school senior that graduates with a "B" average (80.00 or better on 100 point scale), graduates in top 40% of your class or pass the required DCCCD assessment test to enter any of the seven colleges and shows an economic need. The economic need is based on the number of family members along with income. How do I Apply? Potential Rising Star students may obtain a Rising Star application from their high school counselor or contact the Rising Star liaison at the campus of their choice. Students must complete and submit the Rising Star Application, DCCCD Admissions Application, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and an Official high school transcript to the Rising Star campus liaisons.How long do I have to apply? Initially, Rising Star students had to attend one of the DCCCD colleges within the summer or fall immediately after graduation, but as of August 2001, students have up to twelve (12) months after high school graduation to apply and be accepted. What is the scholarship amount? $4,000 (sufficient to cover costs to obtain an associate's degree or occupational certification at any of the DCCCD campuses.) This amount covers tuition, fees and books up to $500 a semester. Recipients do not receive a cash award. Instead, an account is set up for each student for use only within the DCCCD.Can Rising Star be used outside of the DCCCD? No. Rising Star students may use the scholarship only within DCCCD. Recipients may attend any of DCCCD's campuses which includes Brookhaven College, Cedar Valley College, Eastfield College, El Centro College, Mountain View College, North Lake College, Richland College and the Bill J. Priest Institute for Economic Development.
