First Alert Orientation
New students are welcomed and all information pertaining to campus life is provided.  Handouts will be given and information from the various Divisions would be available.  FREE refreshments will be provided.  Small groups of students will be given a tour of the campus by staff and students.

The Inner City All Stars brings “it” to Eastfield College.  This high energy band has appeared on Showtime at the Apollo.  Also check out games and food in the Lower Courtyard.  It’s a good time to meet and make new friends.

September 17 is known as National Constitution Day. Come celebrate the work of our founding fathers a little early as we explore and honor the United States Constitution with informational lectures and interactive discussion.  Contact the SPAR Office for the specific time and program content information.

The Big Read
Sponsored by SPAR and Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society

The Big Read
is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to revitalize the role of literature in American popular culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens. Inspired by the classic science fiction novel, Fahrenheit 451, The Big Read will focus on author Ray Bradbury’s haunting denunciation of censorship.  Bradbury uses the materials of science fiction to tell the story of Guy Montag, a fireman forced to burn books.  Sigma Kappa Delta will be hosting a Photography & Writing Contest in conjunction with the program.  For more info, contact SPAR or Dr. Rufel Ramos.

Students will be involved in presidential candidate debates, as well as “vote” for the candidates of their choice.   Come hear about qualifications and experiences the candidate representatives present to the student body.  This program will be sponsored by campus government classes and involved student groups.

Co-sponsored along with the Disabilities Services Office, SPAR is proud to present this informative and interactive program designed to educate all of us about the struggles many of our students face.  Interactive activities will allow participants to feel first hand how it feels to complete simple tasks with limited mobility and other challenges.

Eastfield College Speaker Series featuring
Judson Laippley

You know him as the creator of the “Evolution of Dance,” the internet video that has taken the world by storm,  Judson Laippley will not only make you laugh until your sides hurt, but he’ll inspire you with his thought provoking message on managing change and the paradoxes of life.  Meet Judson at the reception immediately following his presentation.

Enjoy a pictorial and informative journey of Europe as seen through the eyes of a former  Eastfield College student.  Lindsay Foreman, a recent graduate of Texas A & M University, will share her study abroad information that complemented her overall college experience.  Learn how important it is to open your eyes to other cultures.  You’ll be amazed at how small your world will seem when you travel.

The Learning Assistance Center and SPAR team up to provide students with a series of workshops on various topics relating to learning, studying, and student success.  Be sure to contact SPAR or the LAC for specific topics and times.  We hope you’ll take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to build the skills you need to achieve success!

Halloween Event
Eastfield students are invited to participate in this annual costume event!  Come dressed in a costume and enter the parade and contest!  The show begins at 12:00 noon in the campus cafeteria (Pit).  All students must sign up at the contest table before the parade begins.  Prizes will be given for the 3 best voted costumes.  This annual event is sponsored by the SPAR office.  Call 972-860-7185 or come by the SPAR office, Room C-141 for more information.  Student participants must abide by the rules of the Student Code of Conduct regarding conduct and costume attire.

True Colors
True Colors is a personality check system used to identify the four distinct personality types.  Through the True Colors process, students will uncover positive attributes and learn how their personality traits suit specific work styles and careers.  The process is designed to help individuals set new directions for working with others and examine career goals best suited for their individual true color personality style.   Students must sign-up in the SPAR office, Room C141.   Call 972-860-7185 or come by the SPAR office for more information.  Enrollment is limited.
