How to Form a New Club

Being part of campus life provides experiences and builds skills that compliment the academic learning. The Office of Student Life will help you with the paperwork process and provide direction in interpreting DCCCD policies and procedures. Club orientations will prepare you for club meetings and processes.

Step One:

Find others that share your ideas, interests, and goals. Student Life can help with recruiting once you have a name for your club.

Step Two:

All clubs are required to submit a

  • Petition for Recognition Form
  • Club Constitution.  Instructions for completing these forms can be found in the New Club Packet.
  • All clubs must submit their Planning Calendar of activities by the 5th week of classes each semester.
  • Clubs will not be recognized after April 1 of the current academic year.

Step Three:

A “Club Advisor” must be a full-time faculty member, professional support staff member or administrator. Club Advisors will assist club activities and provide advice concerning policies, procedures and resources. You can have more than one (especially if you are a large or active group!). Ask basic questions about your club such as your mission, purpose, activities, who your officers are, and when you’d like to hold club meetings.

Step Four:

Have the advisor sign the Petition for Recognition form and review your Club Constitution for suggestions or corrections. Submit the Petition for Recognition Form and your final draft of the constitution to the Office of Student Life. It is then necessary to attend a Club Orientation, submit an Officer’s Roster and Membership Roster.

Step Five:

You will be notified when the Director of the Office of Student Life and the Dean of Student Services has approved your petition. After requirements are met, you can begin submitting requests for meeting space and publicizing your club meetings.  But most of all have fun! Welcome to Student Life!
