Stident Leadership Academy

Learning to lead can be a fun and rewarding experience that will open many doors of opportunity for you in the future.  The Office of Student Life is sponsoring a series of workshops on various aspects of leadership to help you become the leader you want to be.  Come join us for any or all of the workshops listed below.  Leadership Certificates will be awarded to those who attend at least three workshops. 


Session 1:  Introduction to Leadership & the Student Leadership Academy
Tuesday, February  2 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Room G-101
This workshop will explain the benefits and purposes of the Student Leadership Academy (SLA)  and we’ll begin our journey into leadership by defining leadership.
     
Session 2:  Motivational Speaker “Mr. Enthusiasm” Robert Criner
Tuesday, February 9 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Room C-135
Good leaders know who they are and where they are going.  Robert Criner will share tolls and tips you need to be successful in school and life!
     
Session 3:  Leadership Principles Workshop
Thursday, February 18 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Room N-114
Come explore some basic principles of leadership.  You’ll leave with a better understanding of your own leadership philosophy, and you’ll be able to identify the leadership principles that define you as a leader.
     
Session 4:  Leadership Styles Workshop
Thursday, March 11 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Room N-114
Do you know your own style of leadership?  Good leaders understand there are different styles of leadership.  Come learn the different styles of leadership and how you can adapt your style to lead effectively in all situations.
     
Session 5:  Identifying Personal Values Workshop
Facilitated by Dr. Carol Clyde, SMU
Thursday, March 25   Time to be determined Room G-101
This workshop will help you explore the values that underline your  purpose and goals in life.  Understanding these values will enhance your ability to influence, motivate, and lead others.
     
Session 6:  Ethical Leadership Workshop
Thursday, April 29 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Room G-101
Ethics is critical in leadership today.  We’ll explore what it means to be ethical, what leading experts have to say about it, and discuss the principle components that make up ethical leadership.
     

Fill out a “Student Leadership Academy” profile sheet and turn it in to the Student Life Office.  We’ll send you e-mail reminders about upcoming workshops!
