The mission of Eastfield College is to provide excellence in teaching and learning.

Dr. Mary L. Forrest

I grew up just south of Eastfield College in Corsicana, Texas so I am a true Texan. As a young girl I played teacher with my dolls so I always knew I would grow up to be a teacher. After I graduated from North Texas State University, I immediately began my teaching career. I taught theatre and speech in high school and then was fortunate to be a charter member of Eastfield College. I have never wanted to teach at any other college.

I have so many interests. I enjoy my family, teaching, my home and travel, which I do often. Not many people know that I have traveled to Europe over twenty times and that 2009 will be my seventeenth year to travel in the month of July across the United States. During the school year, I find places in magazines that I want to visit and after the first session of summer school is over, I take off in my car for one month. I enjoy the beautiful country and the people I meet along the way.

Last, but certainly not least, I love to teach. A quotation that I have always loved is “To teach is to touch a life forever”. I really do believe this, and I work to encourage students to have positive goals and big dreams and to never, never give up because in our country anything is possible. I have always believed that whenever we make up our minds Providence moves, too. We just have to work to reach our goals and dreams. I am living the life of my dreams, and it inspires me every day. I want to encourage and help my students have the opportunity to do the same.

I married my husband Jim the year I started teaching at Eastfield College. We are blessed with two children, Laci Secor and Jason Forrest. We have three grandchildren and a fourth will be arriving in June, 2009

Communication Club

I started the Eastfield College Communication Club. It is one of the most active clubs on campus. Students can choose to get college credit if they participate in the club or they can just attend for the experience. Some years ago the club students started calling me Ms. Mary and that title stayed with me. Now, most of my students address me by that name. I have included a link to the Communication Club Email if you are interested in joining for credit or non-credit. The club experience will give you confidence in being an active and participating member of an organization in college or in the community.
