Jason Hausback

Jason HausbackJason Hausback has been an active teacher and performer in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area for the last several years.  As a teaching fellow and doctoral student at the University of North Texas, Jason has performed with many of the nation’s best collegiate groups, including the UNT Wind Symphony and the 1 O'Clock Lab Band.  Locally he has been involved with many groups, including the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, the Galen Jeter Jazz Orchestra, the Cary Richards Orchestra and the Lone Star Jazz Orchestra.  In Madison, WI, he was an active freelancer on both the tenor and bass trombone, and played regularly with the best latin/salsa bands in the region.  During this time he had the opportunity to open for the band Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, and also performed at Summerfest, the largest outdoor music festival in the world.

As a teacher, Mr. Hausback has been involved with many of the best schools in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area.  He is currently a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas, an also teaches in Grapevine, Colleyville, Bedford and Carrollton.  He has been active in the marching band scene and currently teaches with Marcus High School, the 2006 Division 5-A State Marching Band champions.  In addition he has taught marching band at Colleyville Heritage, Creekview, Western Hills and Lake Dallas high schools.  Jason has been active in the competitive drum corps arena, and was on the staff of Capital Sound Drum and Bugle Corps from 2004-2006.  He currently teaches with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and tours with them during the summer.

The past year has been a very busy one for Jason.  He was the winner of the 2008 Eastern Trombone Workshop National Classical Bass Trombone Solo Competition, as well as the 2008 ITA Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition.  His trombone quartet “Bell Street Four” also won the 2008 ITA Quartet competition.  Over the winter he toured the Caribbean with Princess Cruise Lines.  In April, Jason had the opportunity to tour Bolivia and Peru with a baroque orchestra, and in July he went on a European tour with the 1 O’Clock Lab Band which included performances at many of the best summer jazz festivals, including Montreux, North Sea, and Umbria.  Other performances include the 2006 Percussive Arts Society International Convention and the 2008 International Trombone Festival, as well as concerts at the Kennedy Center and Blues Alley jazz club in Washington, DC.

Jason has also been active in the early music scene on tenor and bass sackbut.  He has performed at the Boston Early Music Festival and at the Misiones de Chiquitos Baroque Music Festival.

Jason received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin: Madison, and his Master's of Music degree from the University of North Texas.  He is currently working on his Doctorate at the University of North Texas.
