	Joel Jessen - Has been a Faculty Counselor, Ombudsman, DCCCD Process Consultant, Mediator, TQM Trainer and Lead Teacher in Human Development since 1970.

Graduating from Iowa University with a BA in History Education and a MA in Educational Counseling - Joel taught 7th grade geography and 10th and 12th grade sociology in Kansas City, Kansas before becoming a counselor at Lloyd Road Middle School, Matawan, N.J.

At Eastfield Joel has taught Introduction to Psychology, Social Problems, Human Sexuality and Human Development. He has mediated and presented Welcoming Diversity Workshops at several locations in the district and also done TQM training with work groups.

Joel's wife Janis works with the Engineering College at SMU and his daughter Jena goes to Texas State University in San Marcos. Jonathan his son plays basketball at Highland Park High School. They enjoy travel, camping, wind surfing, sailing, kayaking and their dog Moka.

Joel teaches by using counseling techniques which allow the students to participate in their own empowerment. Meaningful movies, student projects like writing one's own personal philosophy of life and understanding systems theory which uses scales to evaluate the health and dysfunction of a person or a relationship are all teaching techniques of a counselor.

Joel believes that the content of the course and the student are what are the focus of the class and Joel is privileged to learn with the students and to be motivated by their success and empowerment.

Joel welcomes requests for workshops or process consulting to empower parents, students, staff or faculty in relation to diversity, TQM work group empowerment, conflict management and building personal strategy for success.
