"The Conference Room Series" is an economic and workforce development outreach initiative. The marketing principle and outcome behind the seminars: 1) is to offer a free viable training sampling on a topic of interest to our business community 2) to create partnerships with Experts-in-the-Field and invite interest to new Eastfield College Continuing Education training programs. Programs are provided through Business and Industry Corporate Contract Training and Continuing Education Workforce Development.

2007 Latino Business Summit

The Latino Business Summit is hosted by the Eastfield College Business and Industry Training Solutions Division. The summit provides an added value to business networking by providing a learning business experience. Each year a topic is presented will have an impact on Business and Industry, its economic opportunities, and workforce.

Our special topic this year is entitled "International Worldwide Trade:  Opportunities and Parallel Challenges".

Panelists will include: 

  • Daniel McAuliffe, President of The Allen Group-Developer of the Dallas Logistic Hub.

The Dallas Logistics Hub is a 6,000 acre master-planned development strategically located right in the center of the region's most important highway infrastructure for industrial goods movement.  The Hub will bring in 30,000 jobs to this area through it's sites for major distribution and manufacturing. There are three deep water ports in Mexico (Topolobampo, Manzanillo, Lazaro Cardenas) and the Port of Houston that are emerging as superior alternatives for Asian goods bound for the population centers of Central and Eastern united States. Because of these underlying dynamics in goods movement, Dallas has become a major hub and a key piece of the NAFTA infrastructure for international and national distribution.

"Principles of Lean Manufacturing"

This primer seminar provides an overview to standardized work, workplace organization, visual controls, set-up reduction, batch size reduction, point of use storage, quality at the source, workforce practices, and pull systems. This seminar will launch your interest in the Lean Series: Value-Stream Mapping, Set-up Reducation/Quick Changeover, Cellular/Flow Manufacturing, 5 S's (sort, set in order, shine, standardize sustain), Problem Solving tools and Kaizan Team Facilitation.

"(RFID) The Radio Frequency Identification World"

Invented during World War II to help Allied fighter pilots identify planes, RFID already had an impact elsewhere - over modern day consumers, retailers, and suppliers. Some in the industry call RFID a disruptive technology, while others acclaim its superiority over the existing bar code technology. What changes are we prepared for? This RFID primer seminar will cover the hardware facts of the RFID revolution, what the buzz is all about and what the future holds for this technology.
