Emergency Medical Technician

The Emergency Medical Technician course is designed for people who wish to become Emergency Medical Technicians. Graduates will function in the pre-hospital care and emergency medical environment at the Texas Department of Health EMT and American Heart Association – Health Care Provider level.

Course requirements are:

• 18 years or older at time of course completion.
• High school education or equivalent.
• Completed CPR or concurrently enrolled in CPR training
• Tuberculin test must have taken no longer than one year prior to the first day of Clinical
• Ability to read as well as communicate in English.
• Ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
• Ability to calculate weight and volume ratios, and read small print.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain.
• Completion of Hepatitis B series prior to patient contact
• Students will need to purchase textbook prior to first of day – Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured  ISBN 0763744050
• Student uniforms will be discussed in the first day of class, included in the uniform will be a watch with a sweep hand

Classes are held at 3330 N Galloway at the NCTI Mesquite campus.  EMSP 1060 will be offered the following the successful completion of the class room work. After completing both EMSP 1001 and EMSP 1060, a student may request the Texas Department of Health Services Certification Exam and the National Registry exam.
