English As A Second Language (ESL) Frequently Asked Questions


(1) Where is Eastfield located, and how do I get there?

From Downtown Dallas:

- Take I-30 East
- Continue I-30 towards Texarkana
- Take the Motley Drive exit (Exit 55)
- Go under the bridge; turn right at Mesquite Community Hospital
- Turn right onto Motley Drive (North) going over bridge
- Eastfield is on the left

From LBJ:

- Take I-30 West
- Exit at Motley Drive (Exit 55)
- Turn left on Motley Drive (North)
- Eastfield College is on the left

(2) What is Eastfield College?

Eastfield College is a two year college, granting associate degrees. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges. ESOL classes are currently being offered through Continuing Education.

(3) How do I enroll?

Pick up the application, Eastfield College Continuing Education Registration, from the Admissions Office (C119). Complete the application, return it to the Admissions Office for processing. Once the information has been received, follow the steps of the paper “English As A Second Language Registration Process.”

(4) When do classes start?

We have schedules on the Internet on www.efc.dcccd.edu , in the Continuing Education Office, outside the Admissions Office (C119), on the bulletin board for announcements, outside the Continuing Education office, outside the Admissions office, and in the courtyard.

(5) How much do the classes cost?

The ESL classes cost $60.00 for approximately thirty hours of instruction. (The Ellis For Business classes cost $80.00)

(6) How long do the classes last?

The English As A Second Language classes last from 10 to 16 weeks depending on the days and hours that they meet. For example, if the class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. until 7:55 p.m., the class meets 16 times, for approximately a total of 30 hours. If the class meets on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the class meets 10 weeks, for a total of 30 hours. (The Ellis for Business classes are from 15-30 hours total).

(7) When and where do the classes meet?

In the schedules are listed the days, times, rooms, and dates of the classes.

(8) How many classes can I take?

You can take English As A Second Language at your level and any other additional ESL classes that are at your level if you like. Also, there is a list of classes given in Spanish in the table of contents in the schedule.
