SPECIAL TOPICS IN FLORICULTURE/FLORISTRY OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT
Certificate program class. Fall, Thanksgiving, and  Christmas decorations, wreaths, centerpieces will be assembled in class. Instructor will provide information weekly, in class, concerning the number of flowers and container needed. Students will need to purchase their own flowers and supplies. Fresh Floral Design - FMKT 1001       $150.00
FLORAL DESIGN
Certificate Program; Prepare for a career working in the floral industry or create professional masterpieces for your own enjoyment.  Learn professional techniques in a hands-on class from a Florist. You will learn how to: identify flowers and design styles; use florist’s tools and supplies; prepare containers; process and preserve fresh flowers and greenery; and prepare hand bouquets and corsages.  If in season Holland flowers will be used in addition to other flowers.  Students provide own weekly supplies or cost of supplies for each class is payable to instructor each week. Flower Shop Operation - FMKT 2035 $100.00
FLOWER SHOP MANAGEMENT
Prerequisites: Fresh Floral Design or currently working in the floral business
Certificate Program course: Learn successful floral design operation principles, practices, and management tips for a retail florist shop from a professional Florist. Topics include structure of the industry, shop location, and marketing methods. Students will learn how to: evaluate business and management practices, describe trends and communication skills involved in retail floral industry; demonstrate pricing calculations; specify necessary supplies and equipment for a floristry operation; apply primary elements of inventory control; state necessary skills for managing workers; and devise a business plan for a small flower shop. Off campus visit to wholesaler may occur on Saturday or Sunday.

Adult Music

Adult Piano Class - MUAZ 1000         $95.00
This is a beginning group piano class designed to introduce adults to the fundamentals of note-reading at the keyboard.  Regular practice is expected. The final class will consist of instruction on how to perform. Recital at end of course will be given in F117. MUEN 2141: Eastfield Community Chorus - MUAZ 1000       $39.00
Prerequisites: Ages 16 thru adults; some choral experience
Come and join the Eastfield Community Chorale, a large performing ensemble made up of area students and adults who share a passion for studying and performing great and exciting works of music for the chorus.  There will be one performance in December, with other dates pending according to the desires of the chorus.

Writing and Publishing - CRWZ 1000   $75.00
Prerequisites: Adults
This is a writing workshop where you will complete two pieces of short fiction, nonfiction or poetry and give feedback to the other students as you prepare your work for publication. Also included will be instruction on professional writing skills, story structure, character development, rewriting, and how to submit work for publication in magazines, literary journals, and the internet. The instructor J. Kelly Maddox is an award-winning writer who has published several short stories and is currently a working screenwriter. He has a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of California, and a MFA in Screenwriting from USC’s School of Cinema - Television.

This basic drawing class teaches how to use charcoal and pencil to sketch still life.  Students will need to bring their own materials and supplies. A supply list will be provided by instructor. Special needs adults are welcome to register and bring an assistant to class.

INTRODUCTORY PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Prerequisites: Bring own 35mm SLR adjustable camera with light exposure meter
Instruction provided in 35 mm camera functions, types of lenses, choosing film and filters, flash photography, printing, enlarging, film exposure, developing, darkroom procedures, digital image production, print finishing, and spotting. Camera should have adjustable: f-stops, shutter speeds, focus, and working light exposure meter.

Pottery

Pottery - ARTZ 1000   $110.00
This course will cover basic hand building techniques and an introduction to using the potter’s wheel. Basic glazing techniques for stoneware pottery will be covered. Individual instruction is emphasized. Supply list will be provided on the first class meeting.
