Prerequisites: Texas State Electrical License or Electrical Training
This course meets the electrical licensing requirements and Texas state laws and rules that regulate the conduct of licensed electricians. Emphasis is on residential, commercial, and industrial installation rules and laws using the 2008 National Electric Code (NEC) and local ordinances. HART 2449: Heat Pumps - HART 2049          $156.00
HEAT PUMPS
Prerequisites: HART 1407 or 1007 , HART 1401 or 1001, HART 1403 or 1003 or equivalent skills
Concurrent with HART 2449.  A study of heat pumps, heat pump control circuits, defrost controls, auxiliary heat, air flow, and other topics related to heat pump systems.  Students will explain a reverse cycle system; list the mechanical and electrical components for the heat pump operation; and explain the operation of heat pump modes including cooling, heating, defrost, emergency heat, and auxiliary heat mode. Students will identify and explain different methods of accomplishing defrost; charge a system correctly in the heating and cooling mode; troubleshoot electrical and mechanical components; perform tests for adequate air flow; and determine balance point and co efficiency of performance.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of HVAC principles and CFC rules and regulations.

INTRODUCTION TO WELDING USING MULTIPLE PROCESSS
An overview of the basic welding processes, including oxy-fuel welding and cutting, shielded metal arc (SMAW), gas metal arc (GMAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW).  Set up machines and complete welds and cutting operations involving SMAW, OXY-FUEL, GMAW, GTAW, and resistance spot welding; practice basic shop safety; identify types of electrodes used in welding processes; define various welding and cutting standards; and demonstrate proper joint preparation techniques.
