GUIDELINES FOR
LIBRARY COMPUTER USE
PURPOSE
Computers are used in the Library to access the Library
Catalog, the online databases, and the Internet.
The primary purpose for Library computer use is
research. Access
to e-mail, chat sessions, various games, and
entertainment through the Internet is discouraged.
Eastfield Library users must adhere to the 2007-2008
Catalog Year Computer Use Policy and 2007-2008
Catalog Year Code of Student Conduct as
explained on the DCCCD
Home Page.
ELIGIBILITY
All students, staff, faculty, and members of the
community have access to the Eastfield College Library
computers. The
computers are available to anyone who wishes to use
them; however,
Eastfield
College
students take precedence over all other users.
Eastfield College Library upholds the principles
of Intellectual Freedom; therefore, Internet filtering
is not installed. Children
under the age of eighteen may use the computers for
research only in the presence of a parent or legal
guardian. Please

for Minors in the Library.
USAGE RULES
The following is a list of rules for Library Computer
Use:
1.
Computers are primarily for research purposes.
2.
Eastfield students take priority over other users.
3.
Internet chat, instant messaging, and playing games are
discouraged. Patrons
performing research in conjunction with a class
assignment take precedence.
4.
Library computers may not be used for commercial purposes.
5.
No mass e-mail mailings or sending SPAM is allowed.
6.
The Library does not restrict or filter the Internet and
cannot be held accountable for offensive or
objectionable information, text, or images that may be
displayed.
7.
Children under the age of 18 may use the computers for
research purposes only under the direct supervision of a
parent or legal guardian.
8.
The parent or legal guardian is responsible for a minor’s
use of the Internet and possible exposure to text or
images that may be unsuitable for minors on their own or
other users’ computer screens.
9.
Downloading to a floppy disk, flash drive, or DVD is allowed
on all computers. Downloading
to the hard drive is not allowed.
10.
Printing from the computers costs 5 cents per page.
11.
Computers are turned off ten minutes before closing.
MISUSE OF
COMPUTERS
Library computer usage must be in complete compliance
with state and federal laws.
Violators may be subject to legal, disciplinary,
or other appropriate action. The Library computers may
not be used for commercial purposes. Computers
are located in public areas and materials being viewed
are not private. Library
users are asked to avoid viewing materials that might
reasonably be considered objectionable by others.
Viewing of pornographic materials may be grounds
for sexual harassment charges by other users.
Misuse of
the Library Computers will result in termination of
privileges.
