GUIDELINES FOR GROUP
STUDY ROOMS
PURPOSE
Group
Study Rooms are provided for the benefit of currently
enrolled Eastfield students wishing to study privately
in small groups of two to twelve people.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR SCHEDULING
The Circulation Assistants have the primary responsibility for advanced scheduling of the Group Study Rooms. The Circulation Assistants relinquish responsibility when they give the daily schedule to the Reference Librarians. The Reference Librarians are responsible for same day scheduling.
SCHEDULING
RESTRICTIONS
The
following rules apply to scheduling the Group Study
Rooms:
- Two or more people are
considered a group.
Groups are limited based on room capacity as
follows: L209
(8), L210 (8), L211 (12), L212 (12).
- Rooms may be scheduled
no more than one week in advance
- A room may be
scheduled for a period of two hours.
At the end of that two hour period, patrons
wishing to continue using the same room must request
continuation of that room usage at the Reference
desk. Two
additional hours are allowed if the room is
available. Patrons
must notify the Reference staff upon departure from
the room.
- Groups may only
schedule one room for two hours in advance at the
Circulation desk or on day of service at the
Reference desk.
Exceptions made for Tutors and Instructors at
the discretion of the Reference Librarians.
- Groups may not
preschedule a particular room for the same time
period more than two days succession.

RESPONSIBILITY
FOR USAGE
The
Reference Librarians will control access to the Group
Study Rooms. Doors will remain locked until unlocked by
staff. Usage will be monitored according to schedule.
USAGE
RULES
- Groups may have rooms
a maximum of four consecutive hours per day.
Groups may have rooms for additional time but
a minimum waiting period of one hour is required
between sign-ups.
- If a scheduled group
is fifteen minutes late, they forfeit their
reservation. The
room is then available to another party upon
request.
- At least two of the
group must be present before access to the room is
allowed. Two
persons must be present at all times.
Unattended rooms will be forfeited.
- No food or drink will
be allowed in the Group Study Rooms.
Failure to abide by this rule will result in
forfeiture of the room.
Violators may lose Group Study Room
privileges.
- Noise should be kept
to a minimum. In
order to maintain an environment conducive for
study, the noise levels should be such that no
sounds may be heard outside the Group Study Room.
- Students may use the
Group Study Rooms for study only.
Students are expected to behave in an
appropriate manner.
- The windows of the
Group Study Room should remain uncovered at all
times.
- L212 houses TV/VCR/DVD
media equipment and a permanently installed
whiteboard. Materials
such as markers and erasers may be checked out at
the Reference desk.
A picture ID such as DCCCD ID or Driver’s
License is required for check out of these items.
Checked out materials must be returned to the
Reference desk.
- The Group Study Rooms
are not available for campus activity.
- Students may be asked
to show ID and sign a Group Study Room Usage form.
- The Library reserves
the right to refuse the use of the Group Study Rooms
to groups who violate these guidelines.
