The Learning Assistance Center is
continuing to help students improve in a variety of different
subjects including life.
" If you try and do the best that
you can do, going to the LAC, with all the help and support of
the people there, will help you become successful in whatever
you do," sociology major Monique Niblet said.
Some students like business major Maria
Vaquero come to the LAC to ask questions. Vaquero was having
trouble with rational expressions; her visit to the LAC successfully
solved her problems.
"I got what I came for, which was
to understand it better." Vaquero said.
The instructors also take advantage of
the opportunity to help students conquer their problems.
"I love my job because here I get
to see the students," Instructional Associate Anastasia
Landford said. All they need is encouragement." Landford
wasn't the only instructor with a positive outlook on teaching.
Amy Reid, peer tutor and current SMU student, was also excited
about helping students improve.
"I think it's a fantastic place,"
Reid said.
"We have fun here because when you
learn you should also have fun."
The LAC is a free service to current DCCCD
students. According to Reid students receive one-on-one tutoring
and are encouraged to form peer groups to build up weak areas.
"Students get the personal tutoring
they really need," Reid said.
Improvement is one of the LAC's highest
priorities and both Langford and Reid would agree that the Center
works.
According to Minh Nguyen, math tutor tests
bring in a lot of students, but they are encouraged not to wait
until the day before the test to try and master material.
