Almost one thousand employment seekers came to Eastfield to participate
in the annual job fair.
"When you have a job fair that has
as many employers as we had, it helps our service area and gives
recognition to the college, it also builds up the economy in
this area," said career planner Ron Rollinson. "When
businesses are thriving it helps the community develop."
Sixty-three different companies attended
the job fair and submitted ratings based on staff and job seekers
preparation and participation. The job fair received a 4 out
of 4 rating from many of the businesses.
This was the first year the job fair was
located in the gymnasium, and with more space more people could
attend.
"Anybody is welcome to walk in and
put in resumes or put the number in the system," Student
Program and Resources volunteer Brittany-Renee Stark said.
With job seekers entering personal information
into a system, employers are better able to analyze their qualifications.
Not all students attended the job fare
with the intention of finding a job.
Childhood education major's Theresa Moore
and Rachel Brooks came out to the job fair to complete a test
for their teaching assistance class.
"We have to find jobs that are related
to the skills we would need to become teachers," Moore said.
Some employers attended the job fair with
the goal of finding more dedicated workers, and according to
Rollinson, some already have.
