New high-tech building being planned - (7/7)
Eastfield is adding a high-tech Learning Spaces building, equipped with classrooms, offices and study areas. It will be built adjacent to the Fine Arts building and should be the focal point of the campus, according to Dr. Richard Cinclair, Dean of the Social Science and Human Services division and committee chair.

Architects give presentations for north and south campuses - (6/20)

Six Dallas-based architectural firms gave presentations to the Eastfield planning board on Wednesday demonstrating how they would tackle the designs of the yet-to-be-built north and south campuses.

Lassiter made chancellor - (6/13)

The DCCCD board of trustees today unanimously appointed Dr. Wright Lassiter, former president of El Centro College, as Chancellor of the district. He was appointed as interim Chancellor after the resignation of Dr. Jesus Carreon in May.

STARS program provides opportunity for students

Four Eastfield students have been selected to participate in the Science Teacher Access to Research at Southwestern (STARS) program this summer at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. The program will provide the students with the opportunity to work with professors conducting scientific research projects, according to Jeannie Han, STARS program coordinator.

Candidates for the positions of Vice President of Instruction and the Vice President for Student Services/ Enrollment Management visited the college this past week and interviewed with the president, Dr. Carol Brown. The candidates participated in forum during their visit, allowing students and faculty to meet and question the applicants.

Remodeling in the works - (6/6)
Ongoing renovations around the campus include a fire alarm system remodel, signage on campus roads are being replaced, as well as a kitchen remodel for Subway. Completed renovations include N1, W3, W4 parking lot replacements and a remodel of the third floor of the A building.

Four students have been selected from Eastfield to participate in scientific research at the University of Texas Southwestern.
The selection process included essays, recommendation letters, GPAs and interviews.
Funmi Afolayan, Pre-Med sophomore from Nigeria, is a recipient of the Phi Theta Kappa STAR Scholarship for 2005/2006 and member of the Eastfield Presidents Honor Roll from 2004-2006. She will be working with Dr. Jerry Shay, Professor of Cell Biology at UT Southwestern. Shay is a pioneer in the field of telomere biology and his research has broad, direct applications to cancer pathology and treatment.
Dang Huynh, sophomore from Mesquite, is a Science major who plans to transfer to a four-year university in pharmaceutical research. Huynh will be working with Dr. J. R. Falck, Professor of Biochemistry at UT Southwestern. Falcks research focuses on the chemistry and biochemistry of small organic molecules that have broader implications in pharmacology and oncology.
Jordan McHone, sophomore from Rockwall, is majoring in Science. McHone is a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. McHone will report to Dr. Carole Mendelson, Professor of Biochemistry at UT Southwestern. Mendelson will mentor McHone in his research assignment on the regulation of genes and proteins that trigger notification of labor in expectant mothers.
Katarina Solberg, is a sophomore from Sweden majoring in science. She will perform her summer research under the supervision of Dr. Julie Pfeiffer, Assistant Professor of Microbiology at UT Southwesterns Center for Immunology. Pfeiffers research uses hepatitis C and poliovirus to study viral genome evolution and drug resistant mutations and the effect of viral diversity on pathogenesis.
