Motley Elementary, 5th grade classes, Teacher: Ms. McDaniels

Research coordinator Dr. Jennifer Baggett transported the TM-1000 portable scanning electron microscope to Motley Elementary School on October 15, 2007. In this trip, two representatives from the Hitachi corporation, Linda Dailey and Kevin Cronyn, kindly assisted in transport of the microscope.

Two classes of 5th grade students were introduced to electron microscopy and allowed to work directly with the TM-1000 to manipulate and focus on samples. The students had a great time learning about the ways scanning electron microscopy can be used in the real world and what career options they have in science fields.

Two Eastfield science students, Lily Vu and Dewayne Perry, were of great assistance on this outreach trip, helping to show the students how to use the TM-1000 and telling them about their own school and career goals.
