We believe that each child is an important person with a unique developmental pattern, based on his or her heredity and environment. Children have individual levels of development determined by their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs. Children are the central focus of this program and we value the child as an individual within the context of his or her family and community. The program’s learning environment is designed to help the child grow and develop in all areas. Children learn best by personally experiencing their environment through their senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell.
We acknowledge and support children's individual learning styles. Planned learning experiences and activities are based on observation of each child’s interests and individual needs, as they emerge. We recognize the integrative nature of children's play as it affects learning in such curriculum areas as math, science, language, literacy and the creative and expressive arts. Balancing activities such as creative expression, language/literacy, sensory/science, math/manipulative, music/movement, imaginative play and physical education, both indoors and outdoors, provide a variety of ways for the children to experiment, discover and develop with their curious natures. Offering children choices enhances their ability to have confidence in themselves and be enthusiastic about their learning, allowing the children to develop at their own pace. We value daily routines such as eating, toileting, dressing and resting as opportunities for learning and social development, therefore we ensure these times are engaging and appropriately stimulating. We recognize the need for children to practice skills and consolidate their learning by providing opportunities for repetition of experiences and extension of their ideas.
We further believe that the foundation in the first years of life provides for the development of healthy self-esteem and self-confidence as well as self-regulation, character building and moral development. These are qualities essential to all people, regardless of age. Collaborative partnerships among parents, staff and children are necessary to provide direction for each child in warm and loving environments. A united effort, inclusive of all experiences, supports children in their development while providing a solid foundation for a lifetime.
