What is Talent Search?

Talent Search is a federally funded program. It is designed to encourage economically disadvantaged youth to complete high school, enter and complete college. It also helps disadvantaged adults with secondary/post-secondary education.


Who is eligible?

  • Students — 7th to 12th grade (students from Skyline, Samuell, and Spruce high schools; Florence, Hood and Comstock middle schools are strongly encouraged to apply).
  • Adults — Age 19-27
  • Veterans, Low income
  • Potential first generation college students
  • United States Citizens or permanent resident status

Talent Search provides:

  • Tutorial services
  • Personal, career, academic advising
  • Facilitates college group tours
  • Free Access to Computers, E-mail, & Internet service
  • College Admissions/Financial Aid information & Assistance
  • College Planning

How Can I Become A Participant of Educational Talent Search?

The federal government mandates that two-thirds of the students served by ETS programs meet the following criteria:

  • Low income
  • United States Citizen or permanent resident status
  • First generation college student
  • Possess the academic potential to succeed in college

This criteria can be determined by completing an ETS application. As part of the ETS application process, potential participants will need to provide the following documentation:

  • Parent(s) income
  • Parent(s) education (signed statement)
  • Proof of citizenship, permanent residency, or other documentation from INS proving that the student is in the United States for other than a temporary purpose.
  • If you should have any questions or concerns regarding the application process or if you would like to learn more about ETS, please contact the ETS office.

What are the benefits?

The program is designed to motivate and support students by offering an array of educational opportunities. The success of our students will impact not only their families but also the community as a whole. Our goal is to leave a lasting impression on our students and instill in them the confidence needed to succeed not only in Pleasant Grove, but also wherever their endeavors take them. Nationally, there are over 302,000 Americans enrolled in 319 TRIO Educational Talent Search programs.
