College
Eastfield College
Program
Toyota Technician Education Network (Toyota T-TEN)
Background
The Toyota T-TEN program with Eastfield was initiated in 1999 and targets high school students enrolled in
automotive programs to train for employment in Toyota and Lexus dealerships.
Funding
Since the program began, Toyota has provided $125,192 in financial assistance, $500,000 in vehicle inventory
and $12,000 in equipment. Additional support comes from Toyota’s regional affiliate, Gulf States Toyota, Inc.
Specifics
The five-semester associate degree program is completed with instruction and lab work in the college’s state-
of-the-art Automotive Technology facility with co-op work experience at dealerships. Sponsorship at a Toyota/Lexus
dealer is not required to begin the program, but award of manufacturer certifications is contingent on obtaining
and sustaining sponsorship at a Toyota/Lexus dealer. There are nine Toyota and five Lexus certifications, and every
T-TEN student must also attain two Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
Outcomes
Since the program’s inception, 173 students have graduated from the T-TEN program, earning industry
certifications, and have gone to work as service technicians in Toyota and Lexus dealerships, where they complete
640 hours of internship.
