The Eastfield Dance Company consists
of students who share a love for dancing and performing. The dancers
balance their passion for the performing arts with their value of
education, creating a hardworking, committed company. The Eastfield
Dance Company has committed itself to promoting dance at the college, as
well as in the outside community, participating in various activities
on campus, including Black History Month, Women's History Month, Cinco
de Mayo celebrations, and being a part of the Drama department's
musicals. The Company also hosts Dance and Snack, a free outdoor
lunchtime concert series that features work from our student
choreographers and guest artists.
Students in the Eastfield Dance
Company must enroll in Dance Performance, and are encouraged to also
enroll in a dance technique course. With the company, students have the
chance to work with faculty members and guest artists to produce the
Fall and Spring dance concerts.
In 2013, Program Coordinator
Danielle Georgiou started the Dance Department's Guest Artist Residency
program that has invited professional dancers and dance companies to
Eastfield to participate in short-term residency projects with the
Eastfield Dance Company. The Company has had the pleasure of working
with Whitney Boomer and Big Rig Dance Collective, Antonio Arrebola and
Delilah Buitron of the Dallas Flamenco Festival, Emilie Skinner and
Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet, The Danielle Georgiou Dance Group, Kiera
Amison of Muscle Memory Dance Theatre, Melissa Sanderson, Meredith
Knight, Sarah Matzke, Christie Nelson, Claire Augustine, Elisa De La
Rosa, Yeajean Choi, Brandon Gonzalez, and Jennifer Mabus. In 2015,
faculty member Melissa Sanderson created the Faculty Dance Concert,
during which faculty members and invited professionals create and
premiere original works of choreography.
Students are also given the chance to produce their own choreography. They audition work and are supervised by faculty members.
