Dr. Cindy Castañeda teaches Texas and U.S. Government courses and is co-director of Eastfield’s Honors Program. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Harvard University, a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of North Texas in Denton. Her most recent degree is an associate degree in Geographic Information Systems from Brookhaven College. She joined Eastfield College’s faculty full time in 2010 as a faculty member.Her career spans more than 20 years in higher education and has included positions such as resident scholar, assistant dean, executive dean and professor. Experience includes working at nonprofit organizations, in the federal government and at both public and private two- and four-year universities, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, DePaul University and Richland College. She loves working with students in and out of the classroom, especially on setting and accomplishing goals for graduation and transfer, and has personally visited some 100 colleges and universities. An active community volunteer, Dr. Castañeda has served on the Garland ISD Board of Trustees, serving over 57,000, a post to which she was elected in 2008, 2011 and again in 2014. She was appointed to The Thacher School’s Board of Trustees in 2009. She has won an Excellence in Teaching Award both from Eastfield College and the DCCCD and has published in her academic field of community college athletics.
