James Bauer serves as a welding instructor and workforce coordinator at the Bill J. Priest Institute. He earned his associate degree in welding technology from Mountain View College and became a welding instructor with Dallas County Community College District in 1998, spending his first 15 years of teaching at his alma mater.

Bauer has now welded professionally for almost 29 years. He is experienced in advanced welding and fabrication, welding automation, computer numerical control and quality control. He has performed AWS/ASME code welding for various companies, including NASA Johnson Space Center – where he worked on Project Morpheus – as well as rocket propulsion systems integration for the Rocket Racing Association and Armadillo Aerospace (now EXOS Aerospace) with an emphasis on propulsion tanks, rocket engines and propulsion systems structures.
