Mission Statement

The mission of the Texas Pre-freshman Engineering Program (TexPREP) is to provide a challenging academic program designed to motivate and prepare middle and high school students for success in advanced studies leading to careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

What is TexPREP?

TexPREP is an academically intense, mathematics-based, summer enrichment program. TexPrep helps students prepare for careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The program includes coursework, team projects, class presentations, examinations, career awareness speakers, and engineers. This is a national program where high school elective credit is awarded by school districts for the successful completion of TexPrep.

Eligibility

Middle school students from area school districts are encouraged to apply. Eastfield College offers Year 1 of TexPREP.

Year 1 requirements:

  • Parental Permission
  • Rising 7th-grade students: 90% average in current mathematics class, and Science or English*
  • Rising 8th and 9th-grade students: 85% average in current mathematics class plus Science or English*
  • Recommendation from a math teacher and a counselor, science or English teacher
  • Satisfactory conduct grades
  • A 100-200 word essay on why you want to participate in the program

Program Schedule

Eastfield College TexPREP will run for six weeks beginning Monday, June 18, 2018 - Friday, July 27, 2018. Daily program times are from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Cost

For DISD (Dallas Independent School District) students, MISD (Mesquite Independent School District), and Legacy Preparatory students:

  • There is NO COST to students. Due to generous sponsorships from the ISD's and Schools, students who are accepted can attend for FREE!
  • Transportation is not provided.
  • Daily free lunch is available to all students.

For all other students:

  • There is a $600 fee to participate. This fee is due no later than June 11, 2018, one week prior to this first day of the program.

  • Daily free lunch is available to all students.

Every child is encouraged to apply and could benefit from participation in TexPREP at Eastfield College.
