The Honors Program is designed for students who are interested in joining a community of scholars and who are interested in improving their academic record in preparation for university transfer.

The Honors Program is designed for students who are interested in joining a community of scholars and who are interested in improving their academic record in preparation for university transfer.

How do I join the Honors Program?

All students are eligible to join the Honors Program based on the requirements below. Students may be invited to join through e-mail correspondence, but you can always contact one of the Honors Program Co-Directors at EFCHonors@dcccd.edu for more information and admission inquiries.

Student Eligibility Requirements

  • Entering Freshmen Minimum high school GPA of 3.35 and/or TSI scores of 360 Reading and 345 Math and 6 Essay Writing, or 5 Essay with 370 Sentence Structure Score
  • Current Students minimum of 3.35 GPA2 (transferable college credit)* on 9 college hours
  • Completion of at least one Honors course at Eastfield College with a grade of B or better**
  • Meeting with one of the Honors Program Co-Directors
  • Good standing with Eastfield College and/or previous institutions attended

*GPA2 refers to college-level academic courses that may fit on a degree plan at a two or four-year college or university. This may include dual-credit courses but not developmental courses or Workforce Education Courses. If in doubt, consult with one of the Honors Program Co-Directors.

**Students who have not yet completed an Honors course, but meet the other requirements may be granted conditional acceptance into the Honors Program

What are the requirements to graduate from the Honors Program?

There are two levels of completion of the program. All requirements must be completed throughout the student’s time at Eastfield College.

Tier 1 Honors Scholar

  1. Completion of a minimum of 12 credit hours of Honors Program Courses with a minimum 3.35 GPA (GPA2 must also be at least 3.35)
  2. Completion of a minimum of 20 hours of approved enrichment activities
  3. Completion of a minimum of 30 hours of approved Service or community service

Tier 2 Honors Certificate

  1. Completion of a minimum of 6 credit hours of Honors Program Courses with a minimum 3.35 GPA (GPA2 must also be at least 3.35)
  2. Completion of a minimum of 10 hours of approved enrichment activities

Phi Theta Kappa

The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honors Society is an international honors society of two-year colleges and academic programs.  Its main purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship, leadership, and service among motivated students.  Membership is by invitation only. 

We encourage all eligible members of the Honors Program to join PTK, as both organizations work together to provide unique opportunities to high-achieving students!
