The Honors Program is designed for students who are interested in joining a community of scholars and who are interested in improving their academic record in preparation for university transfer.

The Honors Program is designed for students who are interested in joining a community of scholars and who are interested in improving their academic record in preparation for university transfer. 

What are the benefits to joining the Honors Program?

  • Participation in service learning, community service, and leadership activities.
  • Access to small honors classes encouraging interaction and discussion
  • Fellowship with other motivated students who share common goals
  • Honors designation on transcripts helping to build stronger applications for scholarships and university admissions
  • Enhanced ability to qualify for transfer into university honors programs
  • Assignment to an Honors Program mentor who will provide individualized guidance
  • Great preparation for university-level work

How do I join the Honors Program?

Students who meet the following requirements are encouraged to apply to the program:

  • GPA of 3.5 for entering freshmen or current students who have completed at least 12 hours of college-level credit
  • TSI met in both reading and writing
  • Good academic standing with Eastfield College and/or previous institutions attended

Students who meet these requirements may complete the Honors Student Application Packet.  Applicants will also need to obtain two letters of recommendation. One must be from a former instructor and the second may be from an instructor or an advisor/ counselor familiar with your academic work.

What are the requirements to graduate from the Honors Program?

To graduate from the Honors Program and to receive the Honors Scholars distinction the following requirements must be met:

  • Completion of at least 12 hours of honors courses in the Eastfield Honors Program.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.35.
  • Completion of approved service learning and/or community service hours.
  • Participation in approved leadership building opportunities.

PHI THETA KAPPA

The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honors Society is an international honors society of two-year colleges and academic programs.  Its main purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship, leadership, and service among motivated students.  Membership is by invitation only. 

We encourage all eligible members of the Honors Program to join PTK, as both organizations work together to provide unique opportunities to high-achieving students!
