Thirteen El Centro College Art students, under the direction of Omar Hernandez (Art Program Coordinator), designed 15 framed art pieces using various mediums that will be on display during the entire run of RAGTIME THE MUSICAL. The musical, which is showing at Music Hall at Fair Park, runs May 24- June 5. The exhibition is made up of work from Digital Art I, Digital Art II and Drawing II. Their assignment was to create a composition after studying the history of the musical - including but not limited to: previous posters, stage settings, and time period references in general or create a composition inspired from the musical’s cultural theme or a specific character. Digital Art I students include: Alex Piland, Andres Lopez, Azalia Salazar, Sam El Ali and Meighan Sims. Digital Art II students include: Brian Burkhart, Frank Gonzales, JR McFarling, Marco Sanchez and Alondra Gamino. Drawing II students include: Neftali Andrade, Frank Gonzales, JR McFarling, Sergio Salinas and Jay Hillard. The Art Department of El Centro College provides a wide range of courses including studio and lecture classes. Studio classes in both 2-D and 3-D media are offered including drawing, painting, photography, design, jewelry & small metals, sculpture and ceramics. These classes are essential coursework for the student pursuing a degree in a creative field, and they supply the student with valuable foundation skills.
