If you're reading our Student Newsletter, that means you've been through the new student admissions and registration process already. But you may have family members or friends who are interested in getting started at a college of DCCCD. So, we want to fill you in on some improvements the colleges have made to that process — and some website updates that followed those changes.
In the past, if you wanted to tell a new student how to get started at a college of DCCCD, the answer was "it depends." While the steps were generally the same — apply, take some tests, see an advisor, register, pay for classes — the order varied from college to college.
Thanks to the Guided Pathways transformation and a lot of hard work by many employees, those days are over. Incoming students now will follow the same six steps to get started at any of our seven colleges — ensuring a consistent experience across the district.
And the district and college websites have been updated to reflect that change. Visit the main Apply & Register page to see the six steps, which are now:
1. Apply to be admitted to the college of your choice.
2. Connect with an enrollment representative for pre-advising.
3. Determine if you meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements.
4. Connect with an academic advisor and participate in an information session.
5. Register for classes.
6. Pay for your classes.
Note that two of these steps are new. Step 2, Pre-advising, gives students guidance on the entire process. Step 4, Information Session, combines advising and the Student Engagement Experience (orientation).
Step 1, Applying for College, has also been updated with the addition of a couple of new steps toward the end (see "After you apply").
We hope these changes will help new students make a strong start toward achieving their goals.
